Like ginger, turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae)

The interesting parts are the tubers (rhizomes), mostly used for taste and colour. Turmeric is native to tropical Tamil Nadu, southeastern India but grows and develops well in moist areas with day temperatures between 20C and 30C. Turmeric is mostly grown in India, Nepal, China and Vietnam.

Many different varieties of Turmeric are known such as white, black, yellow and red of which the most popular variety is red turmeric. Each type of turmeric has different properties and uses. Turmeric and its curcumin extract are known for its anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, wound healing and anti-bacterial effects.

Main use however is in cooking where it is used for flavor and colour. The colouring properties are also used in the traditional dying of clothes.

In Vietnam, turmeric is grown in many places but concentrated in the Central Highlands, the northern mountains and the Southeast. Cucurmin content in Vietnamese turmeric is usually about 0.3%. Turmeric grown in the northern mountains provinces such as Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Bac Kan have a high curcumin content, around 0,36 -0,40%.

Taking advantage of the favourable climate and soil conditions for the development of turmeric in Cao Bang, together with our farmers we have developed the growing of organic turmeric in the highland of Ha Quang district in the Cao Bang province. Currently an area of over 50 hectares turmeric is grown here giving a high yield with a high curcumin content

Based on the organic turmeric root, we have been producing and exporting several turmeric products including fresh turmeric, dried turmeric and turmeric powder.
